An Elevated Taste: The Pristive™ Tankless Reverse Osmosis System

Uniting elegant design with wellbeing in the kitchen

Whenever he sits down with a new client, Joseph DeCasperis thinks about two things: function and enjoyment. The designer considers his clients’ lives as a whole—their morning coffee, their daily rituals, their family, their guests—and uses that as the basis for each project.

From there, his goal is to change the way people feel: to promote serenity, positive energy, efficiency, or wellness through design. He wants to leave every space with a perfect marriage of individual spirit and practical innovation. “The goal of wellbeing is not to have to think about it, but to know that you’re experiencing the act of being well,” DeCasperis says.

Among DeCasperis’ Southern California client base, water quality is often a major concern. “It’s very common for our homeowners to ask for filtered water at the sink,” he says. “We always bring it up at the beginning of the kitchen design process.”

A 2023 study from the Water Quality Association shows that across the U.S., more and more people worry about the purity of their drinking water. Mike Sale, who is both the director of home water systems for Brizo and a certified water sommelier, heard that same concern from consumers.

“When we talked to homeowners in America, they said ‘I’m concerned about the things in my water,’” Sale says. “We did a lot of research on the actual landscape, and what was on the market was not good enough by our standards. So we rebuilt it to meet what we knew our consumers needed.”

So Sale’s team started developing something new—something to elevate the whole market. They created the Pristive System to offer filtration that’s sustainable, simple to maintain,
and of course, certified to reduce even more contaminants.

To meet all those goals, the team harnessed the power of reverse osmosis, one of the most powerful technologies available for the home. Sale compares the process to pushing water through a roll of wrapping paper: as it moves through the process, the filters trap most other impurities, removing them and flushing them away.

“Reverse osmosis restores water to a baseline,” Sale says. “It’s taking most everything out,
so it gets to that neutral, base water level.”

Once the filter reduces contaminants like chlorine, bacteria, PFAS, and more, Sale says the water will taste both cleaner and lighter. For some, that’s exactly the right profile. But Sale wanted to give homeowners access to a different flavor profile—one that many prefer from a taste standpoint.

So he and the team developed a remineralizer: an optional add-on that puts electrolytes and natural minerals back in, transforming the flavor. “It gives the water a little more backbone and flavor,” Sale says. “For things like coffee and cooking, it’s a really nice sweet spot.”

Creating that flavor was an important part of the team’s process, especially given his background as a water sommelier. “In America, water is often looked at as just an input:
I need to put this in my body to move forward, and that's all,” he says. “I think there's so much more to it.”

DeCasperis says that the remineralizer makes a big difference to his clients. “We already share that reverse osmosis water is extremely pure,” he says. “To have a built-in remineralizer is going to be an outstanding addition to the system.”

“We want people to trust and appreciate the water coming out
of their faucet.”

He also believes that other details make it easier for clients to say ‘yes’ to the system: the tankless design, two-year filter lifespan, and compatibility with a full range of Brizo beverage faucets, to name a few.

Four years of research, testing, and development later, Sale hopes the same thing. “We want people to trust and appreciate the water coming out of their faucet,” he says.

He also believes the system will offer a more sustainable path forward for those concerned about water quality.

“We see people making expensive, environmentally unfriendly choices, like selecting bottled water, because of their fear,” he says

But over the two-year lifespan of its core filters, the Pristive System can filter the equivalent of 10,000 water bottles. Plus, it boasts a better ratio of filtered-to-waste water than its tanked counterparts: it’s 90% more efficient. That reduces wasted plastic, wasted water, and wasted money all at once. According to Sale, “there’s a huge impact.”

“It just becomes part of the flow of the room that you’ve got set up.”

Ultimately, Sale says, the Pristive System is a seamless blend of aesthetic beauty and innovation, restoring the relationship between homeowners and their drinking water. “I like that it just becomes part of the flow of the room that you’ve got set up,” he says. “It’s very intentional that it can be your style, your design—and it really fits in with your home.”
